The brief

For Wego Arabia’s 2018 summer ad campaign, we were tasked with convincing consumers to think about booking their next holiday in a completely new way: booking online with Wego.

Our approach

People love to travel but the hassle and perceived expense of booking flights and hotels usually means they spend their time fantasising about their dream vacation, rather than making it happen.

With our five television commercials, we teased this insight to create a variety of humorous “home-made” holiday scenarios with the goal of telling people that with Wego, you can make your fantasy holiday a reality.

From filling a lounge with beach sand to mimic a family seaside trip to playing golf on the boardroom table in the middle of an important meeting, we broke convention and appealed to our sun seekers who daydreamed of escaping everyday life.

The results

The TVCs that also ran online enjoyed nearly 2M views on YouTube.

Director’s notes

“To the untrained eye, the advert appears to be filmed by an amateur YouTuber. However, that is where the magic and true intelligence of this ad campaign lies.

The twist in the videos was that the actors themselves were the ones filming with iPhones! We went to the extent of training actors on how to hold the iPhone to create the visuals we wanted during a three-day shoot in Cairo. The camera movement was of course rehearsed but the actual camera was in the hand of the actor or from another actor’s point of view.”
